Lilley Cornett Woods
The largest old growth forest located in the south-eastern portion of Kentucky. Lilley Cornett Woods’ preservation of our natural heritage is invaluable because it allows us to appreciate and understand the difference between an old growth forest that was present in the time of Daniel Boone and one in which the lumber had been harvested. The forest has been registered as a National Natural Landmark by the U. S. Department of the Interior and the Registered Natural Area of the Society of American Foresters.
The trip to see a wooded section of Kentucky, as it was when the Indians still hunted the forest, is well worth the drive. Guided tours are available on designated trails. Weekdays the park is open daily from May 15- August 15, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Weekends April, May, September and October 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Tours are conducted on a first come first serve basis and groups are encouraged to reserve a time by contacting the director or the superintendent.
