Bad Branch Falls
Bad Branch Falls State Nature Preserve is a 2,639-acre nature preserve in Letcher County, Kentucky. The preserve includes Bad Branch Gorge, a forested gorge with a sixty foot waterfall tumbling over sandstone cliffs on the south face of Pine Mountain. The preserve has been designated a Kentucky Wild River due to the pristine nature of the watershed it creates. There is 7.4 miles of foot trails and bridges over uneven strenuous terrain. The preserve is located approximately 9 miles southeast of Whitesburg in Letcher County. Driving directions from the junction of KY 15 and U.S. 119 S.E. of Whitesburg, follow U.S. 119 south 8.0 miles. Turn left at junction with KY 932, travel east for 2.0 miles to gravel parking area on left side of KY 932. This hiking area offers views of Kentucky as it existed in the time of Daniel Boone and the scenery is truly breathtaking, even though it is strenuous hike it is well worth the effort. A Parking Area is available but there are no restrooms.
