Battle of Barbourville - Held the 3rd weekend in September each year
This reenactment commemorates the first Civil War battle in Kentucky that resulted in both Confederate and Union casualties. Battle scenes on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon with hundreds of soldiers reliving the story of the historic battle that took place early one foggy morning in September 1861.
The battle takes place along the Cumberland River at Minton Hickory Farm (1/2 miles from town) in Barbourville. Authentic Confederate and Federal Army camps, infantry, cavalry and artillery demonstrations, thundering cannons, soldiers’ wives and camp followers in 1860s costumes, great food, and a fantastic step back in time.
