Going Green

1. Cut out Disposables
After a party, the amount of trash can be daunting. Recycling isn’t the only solution. If you’ve used paper plates, they’re only recyclable if absolutely clean. You can switch from paper to reusable plastic – simply look for reusable plastic items with environmentally friendly numbers. If you prefer to use paper, look for products that are either compostable or made from recycled materials.

2. Cool Using Fans
Fans are a great way to stay cool. They work by causing the perspiration on your skin to evaporate. Wearing lightweight clothing also helps. Not using your AC helps reduce global warming and ozone depletion.

3. Communicate Online
Instead of putting your pen to paper, put your finger to the keyboard. Communicating electronically helps reduce waste and saves trees. Everything from a simple note to invitations and newsletters can be created and sent online.

4. Grow Your Own Nuts
Growing your own nuts will help take more tractor trailers off the road. Many common nut varieties can be grown in the United States including almonds, pecans and walnuts. Check with your local county extension agent to find out which varieties are suited for your region.

5. Buy Clothes Second Hand
You don’t have to shop at trendy boutiques to look good. Shopping for second hand clothes helps reduce waste and the consumption of resources.
